World Vision / Complete Outdoors 2007 Project - Children of the Dump
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO SUPPORTED US AND DONATED TO THIS PROJECT! WE SUCCESSFULLY RAISED $5000 TO HELP GIVE CAMBODIAN ORPHANS A FUTURE!
Complete Outdoors is committed to helping the poorest of the poor around the world. We have teamed up with World Vision to help make a difference in Cambodia. Cambodia is a country that touched my heart after I heard the atrocities done to it's people by Pol Pot a leader that actioned a mass genocide on his own people. I would love to see the children of this country have a positive future and the country rebuild it's economy.
Last year Complete Outdoors raised $5000 for the Children of the Dumps Project. Cambodia has one of the highest percentages of orphaned children in the world. Many of them are sold into prostitution or rumage through the dumps for food. Their situation is desperate and apalling with many 7 or 8 year old children having to raise and provide for younger siblings. World Vision is helping to get children out of the dumps and into schools where they will receive a basic education. Older kid's receive training in practical skills such as baking so that they can sell their goods in the market to earn a living. World Vision works with surrounding communities teaching them basic skills such as the importance of hygeine and clean drinking water and provides healthcare and schooling to these areas. The goal is to make each community self sufficient with business and farming skills being taught.
We at Complete Outdoors would like to thank everyone who has given to this project. You have made an amazing difference in the lives of these children and their families!
World Vision / Complete Outdoors 2008 Project - Clean Water
This year our focus is on raising another $5000 for the implementation of water pumps around the poorest villages in Cambodia. Each year thousands of people die in Cambodia from drinking dirty and polluted water. These water pumps will help to provide clean, safe drinking water for these people.
Rainfall in Cambodia is irregular, with most of the annual rain coming in the monsoon season. Only 34 per cent of Cambodia’s population have regular access to water that is safe to drink. In Samrong Tong, people rely on ponds for water or travel long distances to reach wells, but during the dry season even these water sources dry up.
The Samrong Tong water security project will improve access to safe water for nearly 6,000 people from 10 villages. The project will construct 60 wells with pumps and train a person from each village to maintain them. The project will assist 250 families to install rainwater-harvesting systems on the roofs of their homes. For those families with poorly built houses, the project will provide wooden frames and corragated iron roofs so they can collect rainwater. Water and sanitation committees will be established to educate families about health and hygiene.
The awesome thing about this project is that it provides the basic necessities of life, preventing avoidable disease and subsequent death. The NZ Government believes so much in this project that they are giving $4 for every $1 we raise!
We thank you for your help and support! For every trademe sale made Complete Outdoors gives $1. We would be so grateful if you would match our dollar and help make a real difference in the lives of thousands of people.
